The 1939 Registers of England & Wales are a unique set of records, mainly as they were the basis of what the National Health Service (NHS) in England and Wales, were drawn up from.
It includes anyone who has held the specific surname since they began, hence a name with another surname in brackets eg: Tear (Hunter) or Booth (Tear) shows this persons married name, later in their life.
In the case of a Male/Female it can show a person who had been adopted later in his/her life.
In these records the access has been restricted for anyone who may possible still be alive, so if you can’t find a particular person this maybe the case, although you will probably find the rest of a family.
